Implementing REACH is one of the most challenging tasks that the European chemicals industry has recently faced.

REACH is Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council. It was adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals. It also promotes alternative methods for the hazard assessment of substances in order to reduce the number of tests on animals.

Companies, have the responsibility of collecting information on the properties and the uses of substances that they manufacture or import at or above one tonne per year. We also have to make an assessment of the hazards and potential risks presented by the substance.

Kao Chemicals Europe is committed to taking a responsible approach to the environment and to health and safety throughout the life cycle of its products to contribute to sustainable development and a better quality of life for people. We find that it brings added value to our products. In this context, one of Kao’s main targets has always been the compliance with the existing legislation. We are specifically aware of REACH and we know that since 1st December 2008 there can not be any chemical substance on the EU market, which has not been pre-registered, unless the substance is covered by any of the exceptions listed in REACH regulation. Moreover, if the substance is produced/imported in EU in more than 100 tn/year, the substance has to be also registered.

As you know, Kao Chemicals Europe (KCE) is the European branch of Kao Corporation Japan. Within the Kao group worldwide, the implementation of REACH is centralised in KCE where there is a team dedicated to this. It is an experienced team focused on working to meet all REACH requirements for all Kao products. This includes to keep our MSDS updated with all REACH related information and to facilitate communication through the supply chain.

In case you want to contact us for anything related to REACH, the normal way is going through our sales department. However, there might be reasons to contact directly our experts for REACH through email account: psr@kao.es
